A Friday Night Benefit Show

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwCrQq6uA-0

1m01s Make a bigger arm motion and bigger facial expression

2m47s That’s one of the funniest responses I’ve ever heard from an audience member

4m23s The mom act out should’ve been angrier

5m11s Good job waiting for them to laugh after “Jehovah’s witnesses”

5m52s Cut the “pamphlet” line

6m36s I should learn to not do the rest of this joke if “perfect” doesn’t get a big laugh

7m05s Bad save line in this situation

7m11s Luckily the Carrot Top line saved the set from ending terribly

Overall: I had a great first 6 minutes and a terrible last minute. The big thing I learned is, if you’re doing a benefit show for some medical charity, avoid suicide and abortion jokes. (Yes, this is obvious in retrospect.)

An open mic with seven or eight comics

1m14s Try doing this just saying “millionaire” instead of “multi-millionaire”

6m46s Rephrase to “I’ve already scouted her”

Overall: If you wanna see most of my “darker” jokes, this is a good set to watch.

A basement restaurant show with a small 5 to 7 person audience

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=na4BRZyACbI

0m20s Don’t open with the ex on the street

1m46s Be a little more playful when saying this

4m38s Good example of “yes and-ing” a statement, even when I’m already wrong

Overall: Eh. Nothing special. When the crowds are this small I need to be more informal and not start in straight with material…

An open mic

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGUT_vjFUm8

0m23s Change “that’s not true” to “that’s not fully accurate”

1m12s Kill the last four sentences

2m32s The no hitter should be the first card

4m12s Wait for the laugh before proceeding

5m08s Kill the “girls like restaurants” stuff

Overall: The first half of the Netflix joke is good, but the rest of the new material needs rewriting.

Doing a set at my bar show in Queens for a “crowd” of four

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXx977r-SW4

2m13s My tone of voice has been slightly miserable the whole time, a slight smile or better tone could help

3m28s The biggest laugh was when I stopped doing material and just talked and smiled a little

Part 2

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7h1pIDBf9sg

3m02s These kind of shows are a good place to practice my bombing material

3m57s I shouldn’t do two dark jokes in a row

5m35s Keep holding the photo with my hand

Overall: The only time I got laughs was when I went off script and addressed the crowd or the situation in the room. My energy and enthusiasm was low and it showed in the lack of laughs. I need to find the line between deadpanning but still being excited to be there.
