Performance Critique: July 27a

I was only able to record audio for my July 24th and 25th shows (1 each night) so I’m skipping straight to July 27. If anyone knows of a youtube equivalent for straight audio files (where I can then embed them into my site), please let me know. Otherwise, I’ll have to skip a bunch of sets where I couldn’t use a camera. (I don’t have the time / computer processor to encode this into a fake video at this point.)

I MCed the show, small crowd of 6-10 people

0m24s The joke is there is no joke

1m38s Don’t ask how long they’ve been married, make a guess, it’s more interesting

1m59s I should’ve gone back to picking on the first couple since their friends are married

2m33s Go stronger in tonality on “Igor likes this”

2m59s Stop asking questions and try making statements and then having the crowd tell me if I’m right, it’ll be more engaging

5m22s Good job trying to hook up the birthday boy, and then stacking on an additional comment

6m21s Kill the “help me please” line

7m50s Say “the next comic” instead of “the first comic”

Overall: I had two good crowd work jokes but the actual jokes didn’t go over that well.

This is the main room at Broadway Comedy club with an actual 100 person audience

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIkiM3sDo5c

1m35s I love how I have one person applauding

2m09s This joke needs to move to the start of my set as it’s gets the best reaction

2m50s The laugh was all in the pause

3m04s Nice reaction

4m42s I think the “shelter” line is going too mean in most instances

Overall: Good set but not amazing — it felt a lot better in person. I learned that I should move the “Igor likes this joke” to the beginning of my set and that I should put my camera in the middle of the room, not to the side.

Performance Critique: July 22

Small weekday crowd

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuxuESEFm3w

1m29s So far this feels like I’m at an open mic

2m46s I said “fallopian tubes” instead of “tubes” because I didn’t do the regular “huge tubes” joke earlier in the set

4m02s I need to stop the thesaurus line, seriously

4m59s I need to commit to the character more

5m47s Great question “are you her dad or a Woody Allen type?”

Overall: I bombed while working out mostly new jokes but at least I came up with a funny question.

Performance Critique: July 20

Doing a check spot

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TP9vavpWVO4

0m04s I don’t like when an MC says “he’s new on the scene”

1m22s The first two tubes lines didn’t have a pause at the end

2m11s I need to change my voice tonality for “Igor likes this”

2m44s It would work better to say “I can see you guys got a little uncomfortable… because that usually gets an applause break”

2m58s Instead of “you might know” I should say “you look like you know”

3m56s Instead of asking “was that too far” I should admit “you’re right, that was too far”

4m32s True story, the girl it happened with knows I do this joke

5m04s More emphasis on the word “whole”

6m07s This improv-ed line is a keeper “there’s nervous laughter back there, like, ‘shit I should cancel my account’”

7m33s I thought I had stopped doing the thesaurus line three weeks ago, it needs to stop

Overall: Not terrible for a check spot and I came up with an off-the-cuff line that I’ll re-use. Also, the PEZ characters line is new and needs work, and the thesaurus joke should’ve been dropped long ago.

At the writer’s mic.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QWIQ1JjSd4

1m15s Instead of “you might know” I should say “you look like you know”

2m08s I like the PEZ container line too

3m13s Get rid of “help me please”

Overall: I worked out two newer jokes and my newest punch line about PEZ containers worked.
