Performance Critique: April 26

This is the feedback mic I go to on Sundays. There was an actual audience at this mic for a change.

0m38s Perfect nod and eye brow raise. I’ve found this tends to make the laughs bigger

1m17s It should be “your tubes are kinda large” not “huge”

1m51s Someone said “that’s worse than the comedy”

2m21s Snap my fingers before “that’s your first date”

2m29s The “she gets the remote” part needs to be rewritten to something else

3m17s No need to say “let it roll around” when they already laughed

4m06s I started my question by looking at one person but ended it by looking at another, that shouldn’t happen

4m22s Smile after “snuggle head”

Overall: This was a great response considering it was an open mic and I received positive feedback afterwards. This was a four minute set in order to try to work out my callback / closer for “huge tubes”

This is the 10:30 show for the same night as the last set

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZf6EfD-77Y

0m21s I think the look might be more effective if I don’t move my head around so much and just dart my eyes from side to side instead

1m48s The guy answered “he’s old”

3m00s No need to say that it’s a great idea

3m11s End the sentence on “they beat me”, or better yet, don’t say this line

3m25s A good pause after “third time this week” gets a good laugh

3m42s More emphasis on “unemployment office”

4m56s Great line “you guys are nice, I don’t like that”, no need to say “I like mean crowds” though

5m38s Pause after “vicious” as I stopped a laugh

Overall: I’m working on getting a tight six minute set that’s all laughs in order to submit my video to comedy festivals. (Many have a 6 minute limit on the video submission.) This wasn’t that set. I really need a larger audience

I wound up taking a week off of comedy due to training I had to do for my day job. This is me back in NYC with another small crowd

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWzQiV7ugys

0m57s I find the “doesn’t laugh at a joke” opens up the crowd

1m20s Perfect pause and turn of the head before saying “fallopian tubes”

3m15s I’m saying “you know” way too much (twice)

4m59s I needed to make my hand into a shot glass a second sooner

Overall: Decent set considering I hadn’t been on stage for 8 days, but nothing to write home about

Performance Critique: April 17b

This is the same night as the previous set, but the 10:30 show. I hosted it, another small crowd of 8 or 10.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acaz_XEeEVg

1m05s Not sure why I started my first real joke with this one

2m14s I always call Canada “Canadia”, I find it funny

2m40s If nobody else will compliment you, you gotta do it yourself

3m23s Need more emphasis on “reproductive organs”

3m44s It’s never a good set if “you must love sweaters” doesn’t get a laugh

4m58s I need to end the sentence with “they beat me” without having “in the back”

6m03s No need to give two examples before I do the actual joke

6m14s The last two words need to be “enslave Tibet”, “sign” should go before those two words

8m16s I’m glad “huge tubes” got a (relatively) good laugh cause hosting is tough

Overall: I think I did a good job hosting and mixing in crowd work with actual material. As a host, you shouldn’t expect to destroy an audience, so if you warm them up, you’ve done your job

Back in NYC and a small crowd

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ea3jawim0w

0m39s Point to the floor when I say “this”

1m07s Pause for a second after “that is sexist”

1m52s Combine this into one question of “what’d you get him for Christmas?”

2m55s I missed the word “dog’s” between “click a” and “photo”

5m01s When I do the girl voice, I should have my eyes look up to where I will be standing in five seconds responding to her

Overall: Small crowds are much harder to destroy than large crowds, but it’s a lot less painful if you don’t do well with a small crowd.
