Performance Critique: December 5a

This is the 8:30 show

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImIFCSUx7LI

0m14s The MC was talking about a breakup that just happened

0m59s Make “Yes?” sound like more of a question

1m25s If you interrupt a comedian to ask “is it obvious I’m drunk”, you’re drunk

1m50s I haven’t done this joke in a while, after last night’s set, I decided to go a few days without doing Russian family material

2m24s Take a slight pause after “it’s a rent a pet”

2m44s This the new part of the dog joke

3m46s Instead of “got your nose” I should try “then her nose fell off”

4m20s They replied “17”

4m58s I should say “use protection” in a more downbeat way

5m22s I can’t get the delivery right on this joke

5m42s I should try “you wanna get with the hottest person there” instead of “hottest girl there” so it’s more inclusive

7m30s The premise and solution could be clearer for this joke

7m41s Good joke by the MC

Overall: I managed to more or less lose everyone but the three drunk girls. I should’ve done a little more crowd work with the other audience members, or at least looked in their direction more often. Even with that, the new version of the dogs joke is working pretty well.

Performance Critique: December 4b

This is the 10:30 show

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MWvKnRWOlE

0m18s I’m trying to open with a quick crowd work joke or two

1m14s Try doing “Igor loves this” without a weird voice

1m21s No more “you smell nice” line

1m28s Bad setup to this joke, I haven’t replaced the “fooood” line yet

2m13s This is the weakest response this joke has ever gotten

2m53s Bad attempt at crowd work here

3m40s If they weren’t feeling the first three Russian family jokes, I shouldn’t do more of them

4m16s I just came up with this add-on, it worked this time, but it might be going too far, even for me

5m32s Again, I should have gone into a joke that didn’t use a Russian accent since the previous Russian stuff wasn’t working

Overall: When more than half the crowd is in college, and you start the set with “what is this high school night?” you’re gonna be working harder to win them over. The first joke went over fine, but the audience wasn’t feeling the Russian family material and I kept going back to it. For shorter sets, I need to be more aware if a topic that I have lots of jokes about isn’t working so I could go into different jokes faster.

The 8:30 show

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkST982r1tY

0m27s I shouldn’t do crowd work in the middle of my first joke, either start with crowd work, or get into it after the first joke, otherwise the flow gets ruined

1m21s A friend suggested I use this transition instead of “I like you guys”, it’s not working well

1m56s Sound more scared and concerned when saying it

2m52s Slight pause needed after “shit! No!”

3m14s I should’ve addressed the audience’s reaction with “what is this, a bible convention?”

3m20s He replied “I’m not”

3m58s I had an idea to keep doing the hand motion, and it worked

4m44s No need to address this, as I’m not doing that bad

5m21s Maybe I should be opening with this joke

6m43s Cut the new heights ave joke line

7m01s I’m playing with different call back endings, the original joke isn’t strong enough to end on

Overall: I did a little too much crowd work and it ruined the flow of my jokes. I was also doing well enough that there wasn’t a need to address the audience with “when you get drunker, you’ll laugh harder”, it was just one joke that didn’t hit well. The psychologist joke needs to be shortened if it’s gonna have a chance of working.

Performance Critique: December 1

This is an open mic  “show” (there were two audience members there for a part of the show, long before I got on stage)

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHpfxWWYuvU

0m11s The mic was acting up all night

1m21s Turn more to the right for the “Igor loves this”

1m48s Change “passion” to “dreams”

3m28s True statement

3m57s Pause for an extra second after “yet”

4m11s This needs to be cut, it was cut before but I randomly brought it back

4m28s Always good to talk about how I usually do a joke, gotta love open mics

5m12s No need for the “I was in LA for four weeks” line

5m34s That was a good Igor likes this

Overall: Considering this was in front of four comics who were all ready to leave, I did well. The “Igor likes this” while doing the psychologist thing worked pretty well. I need to stop the overly excited tone of voice when I switch from talking back to material.

Performance Critique: November 30

This is for a crowd of about 10

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMahUJ2IEMc

0m05s I don’t usually post the MC’s intro, but it’s relevant to my set as I’m being introduced by dick size

0m37s Funny cause it’s true

0m43s Awesome follow up

1m39s I need to look the other way when doing “Igor loves this” so that it seems like I’m having a conversation between two people (the announcer and me)

2m06s Seriously, this is the last video that has the “foooood” line

3m02s I’m using the word “like” a lot tonight

3m28s I was more worried about the response than about being in the moment and finishing the line

3m50s That was a funny and spontaneous question

4m26s I tried to do the thing with my hand an extra time, I need to commit and do it 3 extra times, then I can use that motion as a call back later in the set

5m44s That was quite a distracting laugh, thanks comedian who just walked in the room

6m23s Two nights in a row that the premise is getting a laugh

7m01s I like “I can show you later”

7m21s I weaved together a bunch of jokes I don’t usually put together and it worked out pretty well, I didn’t plan this in advance

8m24s Commit to the act out a little more

8m38s The random nerd voice doesn’t really make sense here

8m53s There was no need to do the “Igor likes this” line, but if I’m gonna do it, i should say it in a defensive manner, like the implication is “even if you don’t laugh at this last joke, Igor liked it”

Overall: I’m getting better at being “in the moment” but my delivery still needs work. The newer jokes seem to be working well and I connected a few jokes I hadn’t done in a row before that worked out well. I’m starting to like not having a set joke to close on as it lets me be more free and in the moment. Maybe I should consider getting rid of a steady opener to open myself up more to “in the moment” comedy.
