Performance Critique: May 30a

This is the 8:30 show

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuVYrXkKQbY

0m03s I didn’t ask for the intro as I’ve stopped doing it

0m15s But I had to go with it and do the joke

2m05s I had a big hickey on my neck, some girl in the audience commented on it

5m42s I love how the girl up front has ADD and keeps asking “what?”

Overall: Not a pretty set. I started strong and then went nowhere. I think I lost them when I didn’t respond to the “loving tennis” comment from the crowd. If I wasn’t dedicated to uploading and critiquing all of my sets, this would be one that would never see the light of day

This is me on the midnight show

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnsA_wPmjUY

0m11s The previous comic took the camera of the girl sitting right up front and left the room with it, it was a really funny closer, but sucked for me because now the front center of the room is worrying about their camera and not fully listening to me

0m50s She was talking a lot so I had to address it

2m43s I love how that gets the big laugh

2m59s I didn’t do the Amazon voice the right way

3m41s No reason to say “over drinks”

4m25s Two big laughs in four and a half minutes… not good

Overall: This set got a couple of big laughs but it was mostly crickets. I think the camera being taken right before me messed up the vibe of the room a bit. This was a rough night of comedy. None of my four sets did particularly well but at least it was stage time…

This is the 10:30 show, a small crowd and I’m MCing

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VkSN4MSUok

0m52s My best laugh of the set

3m21s I’m waiting for someone to answer “anything you want”

3m52s I shouldn’t talk to more than two sets of people before doing a joke

4m55s This crowd is giving me nothing

5m26s That could’ve been delivered with more anger (not that it would’ve mattered with this set)

6m08s At least I acknowledged the situation

6m20s This was going so poorly that I didn’t even bother to close with a joke

Overall: I bombed. Even for an MC when you don’t get many strong laughs, this was bad. The energy of the room was low to begin with and I didn’t do much to bring it up.

This is the 8:30 show

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DwuWWoi7-M

0m18s There were 6 people in the audience and 5 of them were foreign, which is why I started with greeting them in foreign languages

0m29s I love the coordinated “why”

2m15s This is me realizing my jokes rely on advanced English words like “fallopian tubes” that foreign people probably won’t know

2m55s I went with the most “act out” joke that doesn’t really on words that I had

3m15s And it didn’t really work, so I stopped doing jokes

4m05s I had to try a joke once more

4m33s At least I’m having fun

5m49s No idea why I decided this was the joke to tell

6m18s I need to emphasize “YOU”

Overall: Once I realized I wouldn’t be getting laughs because the audience’s English was limited, I had fun just talking to the audience

Performance Critique: May 29a

This is me back in New York for good (I’m only doing shows in New York for all of June and July) – it’s a small crowd and 7PM

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtEE5b_SgGA

0m22s I decided to try this joke out as my opener, it doesn’t work

1m21s This seems to be a dead crowd, or I pissed them off really early

3m49s The person in the audience replied “he was the pizza boy”

5m20s I can make my statement of “you guys like to smoke the drugs” more dramatic if I pause, took a careful look into the audience, and then say it

6m42s Say “everyone in New York” before looking around

Overall: I did all my jokes the regular way but it didn’t get many laughs. I’m not sure if it’s because I tried a different opener or I just didn’t vibe with the crowd.
